If you're reading this, you probably have a terrible paint job in your home. You also probably have zero skills required to deal with this issue. Well, you're not alone. Whether it's your personal home, a rented apartment, or a business space, most walls are either poorly painted or lack the proper finishing to be painted well.
So the right thing would be to hire a professional, right?
Right. But it’s a little complicated. Even the best handymen in the home service business may not understand your home as much as you do. So here are some tips to help you help your handyman help you ☺.
Yes, humidity matters more than we might imagine. But they even matter more in rainy seasons and when you live in swampy or humid areas. Ideally, the best humidity for house painting would be 40% to 50%. If you don't know what 40% - 50% looks like, that's fine (neither do we). You can observe the weather, has it been raining a lot, or do you stay close to large water bodies? You can close the windows, use a dehumidifier, turn on fans, or turn off the air-conditioning system.
You have to cover anything in your house that you don't want to be stained with paint. So basically everything within the vicinity. You may not see how this is necessary, or how much damage is at risk. But some materials are prone to damage when you have to scrub the paint off. Plus it likely takes less time to cover them than clean them. So whether it's furniture, rugs, etc., cover it.
From the experience of the Wrkman handymen, there is no such thing as painting around a switch or socket. Either the obstruction gets painted or the work ends up being patchy in one way or the other. Removing these obstructions is usually light work too and they don't require a lot of equipment.
After a good house painting, you should check to see that it is indeed a good house painting. Use very bright or sharp lighting for this. Sometimes, house painting can be done in less than proper lighting and spots can be missed without you or your handyman knowing. So you should check with the room lights and natural lighting. If neither of those is sufficient, get a strong flashlight and scan the painting with it.
You may think everything concerning a house painting is within your handyman’s jurisdiction. But unless they are from wrkman, chances are that some handymen might not know everything that needs to be done. So it’s a case for accountability, and you should be just as accountable as they are so you don’t lose your money’s value. So as you bring in that handyman, equip yourself with the knowledge to avoid an unnecessary headache.
