In a country like ours, the artisan industry usually represents about 65% of our gross domestic product (GDP), but the least beneficiaries of these numbers are our artisans themselves—how ironic. Since the Middle Ages, artisans have served as the informal economy's skeleton. By creating jobs, artisanal businesses have successfully led the economies of several nations into prosperity in recent years, so I guess the question is; what’s wrong with our own artisan industry?
Artisans are unique in that their work is always made to order. It doesn't matter if it's the neighborhood baker, known for his milk bread; the blacksmith, who creates life-size sculptures that immortalize people, art, and culture; or the straightforward roadside hairstylist, tending to a long list of clients who are waiting to have their hair braided into lovely patterns that reflect their individual personalities. The artisan's workmanship distinguishes them from goods or services produced by businesses.
According to the nation; Although the informal sector players are primed to be the highest employers of labour after agriculture, the irony of it all is that this sector is fast witnessing an acute shortage of manpower supply which could even get worse in the coming years.
This decline is due to many reasons; starting with an absence of a governing body for an industry so big. This problem, further broken down, leads to a variety of problems for the common man; lack of professional artisans around us, nothing happens when an artisan decides to take our money and disappear, playing dice and praying to God every time you hand over your car to a mechanic so that it doesn’t come back worse. Not when wrkman has something to do about it!
For starters, a way to curb this artisan decline problem would be to build a small bridge for us and our artisans. Gradually that small bridge becomes a community, and then a city, and boom, we are in a global marketplace. It happened with the rise of social media. And like back then too now, wrkman is that small bridge and as of right now we have 16000+ artisans and 12000+ users on the platform.
We function as a filter to weed out and reorientate unprofessional artisans, we help to expose our registered artisans to a wider customer reach, and you to verified professionals in your times of need. On wrkman, you’ll find vetted mechanics, electricians, dispatch riders, makeup artists, videographers, phone repairs, and so much more. Click here to find out more.
Right after we onboard artisans to the wrkman app, we sensitize and give new orientations on how to not just meet up to standards but how to be professionals at what they do. Since our inception, we’ve set the checks and regulations, marking our place as top pioneers in this industry. So far we have 16,000+ artisans and growing…
